Donald Eugene Newsome, 78, of Sumter, died Monday, May 23, 2011 at his home.

Born in Ashland, KY, he was a son of the late Tivis Newberry Newsome and Kathleen Nave Newsome.

Mr. Newsome was a member of Shepherd’s Chapel in Arkansas. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and was a retired automobile mechanic.

Surviving are one son, Larry Eugene Newsome of Greenville; one daughter, Kathy Lemonds and husband Terry of Camden; two sisters, Mary Margaret Holbrook of Sarasota, FL and Dotty Gilley of Warren, MI; one brother, Tivis E. Newsome of Bowling Green, KY; 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 8 nieces; and 13 nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, David Edward Newsome; three sisters, Helen Geiger, Fern Renfroe, Virginia Marshall; and one brother, Charles Newsome.

Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Andrew Basham officiating.
