A Rembert teen was involved in a head-on collision that left a Sumter County man dead Wednesday afternoon.

South Carolina Highway Patrol LCpl. Judd Jones said 17-year-old Victor Vaughan was traveling southbound on S.C. 441 six miles north of Sumter when his Dodge Durango crossed over the center line and collided with 63-year-old Gilbert Knepp’s 1974 Ford truck.

Jones said the Durango caught on fire, which then spread to the Ford truck.

Knepp was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Jones. Vaughan was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
