After having finished second in League III for the second straight season, Kershaw County Post 17 will hook up with the third-place finisher from League I for the season time in as many post-season appearances.

After having been knocked out by Goose Creek in four games last summer, the locals will try their hand against the Lowcountry Heat out of Hilton Head Island when the first round, best-of-five series opens Tuesday night at American Legion Park in Camden. In an effort to allow more fans from the island to make their way to the game, KC has pushed back its normal 7 p.m. start time to 7:30 p.m.

The Heat (11-9, 8-8 in League I) took third place in the five-team circuit behind champion Goose Creek and West Ashley.

Chris Wells’ troops are coming off their biggest offensive explosion of the season as the Heat collected 19 hits, including 18 singles, in a 20-4 thrashing of Summerville. The winners staked Summerville, which faces Sumter this week, to a 3-0 lead after the first half inning of play before scoring 20 straight runs.

Post 17 is expected to send Will Dorton (2-1) to the mound for Tuesday’s opener with Scott Baldwin (5-1) the projected starter Wednesday in Hilton Head.

The survivor of the KC vs. Lowcountry Heat series has been paired with Goose Creek and either Murrell’s Inlet/Lake City in round two. Post 17 disposed of Goose Creek, 9-3, in finishing the pre-season Florence tournament with a 3-1 mark.
