We at Let Freedom Ring believe in peace through strength. In this same belief we want to honor those soldiers who fought at the Battle of Camden. Those soldiers who fought at this battle believed that the peace they so desperately wanted could only come through strength and standing up to the British army stationed here at Camden. Even though the Americans lost this battle, it went a long way in winning the war and giving the Americans the peace they wanted.

We are encouraged by the prospect of the Camden battlefield becoming part of the National Park system. The fine people at Historic Camden, especially Davie Beard, are working diligently with the National Park system in order to make this happen. We also understand that there is a concept in the planning stages of developing a working tavern, which would be self generating for the park, similar to Gatsby’s Tavern, which is a huge success, in Old Town Alexandria in Virginia. However, these same people need support from the residents of this county of both financial and moral support.

We want to stress that Historic Camden and the battlefield becoming part of the National Park system is good for the county for three reasons: It will bring in revenue, generating funds from the government to build up the park and promote the park which will bring tourism dollars into the city and county, thus benefitting the Bed and Breakfasts, restaurants and Camden shops and small businesses. The second point is that the park will be honoring those who fought for this country. The third point is that the educational aspect of the battle and its role in shaping the country will be enhanced.

If you would like more information regarding this project, please talk to Davie Beard. For more information on the Let Freedom Ring, email
