American Legon Post No. 17 recently made two donations in a one-week period. Locally, the post donated $310 -- the proceeds from its June picnic -- to the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter.

Reaching out beyond the community, the post mailed a $2,255 check to American Legion Post No. 101 in Carbon Hill, Ala. A series of tornadoes ripped through Alabama in April, leaving widespread destruction. The Carbon Hill American Legion post has led efforts of distributing food, clothing, monetary donations and other supplies in its community. The donation was made possible, Post 17 official said, through the community's support of post's benefit pork chop dinner sale.
