YMCA not county's concern

I have taken no position regarding the YMCA controversy because I don’t live in the city limits. I do pay taxes to the city by virtue of shopping and frequenting restaurants in the city, and while I believe purchasing property and constructing a YMCA facility is a far cry from the highest and best use of the citizens’ dollars and is as unwise as the Town Green, still I felt objection should come from residents of the city.

Now it’s a different story. The city wants the county to aid and abet this travesty and I am impacted directly. As most know, the county is in the process of raising our taxes by raising assessments (despite the fact that our homes are worth less, not more). If you don’t believe that, talk to someone who has recently tried to sell their home. So, you might conclude that your county tax increase, in part, is going to be used to build a YMCA for the city. Where’s the logic in that?

I’m not going to enumerate all the reasons I think the city should not be undertaking this endeavor, (although, were I to do so, near the top of the list might be a need to spend available monies on resurfacing streets). I simply am saying I would not like to see the county get involved by spending my tax dollars on what I construe to be an impractical venture.
