Nuisance calls are scams in the making

Recently I have been receiving many calls wishing to sell me something or begging for contributions. For example, a state university has called me and my husband to ask to be included in wills and have a donation given. A salesman, ostensibly from a local cemetery, has called to have me buy a plot and/or have his group put flowers on my mother-in-law’s grave. Is such a behavior not illegal if certainly reprehensible?

Someone with an accent earlier called to request funds for Asian diabetes. Then, Aug. 11, a person with the accent similar to the first asked to speak to my husband. In about 10 minutes, this same individual called asking to speak to me by my first name (never used) and mispronouncing my last name. On both of these calls a radio was playing and children were crying. These are obviously scams, in my opinion. Do not tell me to have my phone listed on the “Do Not Call” list. It is already there.

Where are these individuals getting my telephone number and age? Something should be done about these annoying and illegal attempts to pry money from the elderly.
