Amtrak station an embarrassment

I was in my hometown -- the fair city of Camden -- June 30-July 12. It is always nice to be home, where I spent the first 18 years of my life. I attended and graduated from Jackson Elementary, Jackson Junior High and Jackson High schools.

Some of my other family members who were visiting for the holiday weekend traveled to Camden by train for our reunion. My brother and I met them at the Amtrak station. We had the occasion to meet the northbound and southbound trains. However, I was very disappointed to see the condition of the structure that is supposed to be the station.

If there is not enough business to have the station opened, maybe someone can put a coat of paint on the one bench that is there and also on the poles. It is a disgrace for the station to be in that condition. I get my hometown paper and I see where things are being done to make Camden a stop on the historical tour in South Carolina. I am sure whoever is on that committee should be embarrassed to show a visitor to Camden this landmark. I do hope something can be done about this situation.
