“Experienced jeans” are back again. Today’s young people will call my school days “the dark ages.” But way back then, our mothers worked nights to patch our school clothes. And we tried to hide the patches. That is probably where the idea of BIG book bags came from. We wanted something BIG to hide the patches. Patches meant that our parents did not have money for nice clothes.

It was only about 15 years ago that a friend was sewing patches on her grandson’s jeans. He had worn a hole in the knee. But he didn’t want “jean” patches. He wanted patches of different colors --  bright colors! When his friends saw his bright patches, they wanted jeans like that. Granny ended up sewing patches on everybody’s jeans. Some of the jeans didn’t have holes in them!

Have I got a deal for you! They are genuine, experienced jeans. They have been in the garden and in the attic. They have crawled across the floor. And they even have bleach spots. They have “honest” holes genuinely worn. They are on sale for just $100 each! (Maybe if the price is high, they look better.) Kids can’t brag about how they look. So it’s gotta be how much they cost?

Word List: Experienced, genuine, experienced, genuinely.
