Willis LeRoy Boykin

Willis LeRoy Boykin, 90, of Bishopville, husband of Vida Ree Davis Boykin, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at his home in Bishopville.

Born September 5, 1920 in Lee County, he was a son of the late John Thomas Elie "Bub" Boykin and the late Sally Bell Lee Boykin, both of the Red Hill community of Lee County. Mr. Boykin was a graduate of Central High School. He was a US Air Corps veteran of World War II. He retired from EI DuPont in Camden after 33 years of service. He also worked as a bailiff for The Lee County Courthouse and was an election poll volunteer. He was a Master Mason with the Manville Lodge as well as a Shriner with the Jamil Temple in Columbia. He was a member of Ashwood Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon. During his life Mr. Boykin enjoyed fishing, hunting, and coaching little league baseball. He was loved and respected as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years; fours sons and three daughters-in-law, John Wiley Boykin and his wife, Carlene Moore Boykin of Dalzell, Philip Stanley Boykin and his wife, Patsy Knotts Boykin of Camden, Mitchell LeRoy Boykin of Dalzell, and Davis Dwight Boykin and his wife, Lynne Belk Boykin of Murrells Inlet; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Francis Boykin.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister, Raymond Boykin and his wife, Inez Boykin, Benson Boykin, T.A. Boykin and his wife, Bobbie Boykin, Robert "Bert" Boykin, and Mae Boykin Elmore; a daughter-in-law, Rudell Giddens Boykin; and a granddaughter, Angel Boykin.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday at Mizpah Baptist Church with the Rev. Will Cline officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Wiley Boykin, Jr., Jeffrey Ferris Boykin, Matthew Marc Boykin, Tyler Maxwell Grainger, Clayton-Will Boykin, Mitchell Branham, and Billy Maxwell Grainger.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wyatt Boykin, Garrett Boykin, and Hunter Boykin.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 P.M. Saturday at Mizpah Baptist Church and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Mizpah Baptist Church, 3659 Jamestown Rd., Camden, SC 29020.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
