Ike Byrd has been named regional director of external affairs for Kershaw County by AT&T. He succeeds Buddy Bateman, who has retired.

“I am excited about the opportunity to get to know the people and leaders here in Kershaw County and to work with them in helping grow the economy and make this an even better place to live and work,” said Byrd. “I am especially excited about the benefits which AT&T’s proposed transaction with T-Mobile will bring to this region through expanded availability of high-speed mobile broadband and even better quality wireless service.”

If approved, the transaction would enable AT&T to expand next-generation wireless broadband technology to include many small towns and rural areas.

Byrd is a 40-plus year veteran of the communications industry. He lives in Columbia and his area of responsibilities includes community and governmental relations and economic development for a 10-county area of South Carolina.
