County trio help TSA girls to tennis win

The Thomas Sumter Academy Lady Generals varsity girls’ tennis team trounced Laurence Manning Academy, 9-0,Wednesday at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter.

"This was our second match this year with LMA," said Coach Lynne Newman, "and we played even stronger and more efficiently this time around."

Camden’s Mary Margaret Green scored a 5-7, 6-0, (10-3) win over Perrin Jackson, at first singles for TSA.

Emily Burress then stopped Anna Osteen, 6-2, 6-1, before Kershaw County resident Kelsie Decker swept Peyton McInnis, 7-5, 6-0, at third singles. Camden’s Sara Schmitt shut out Katherine Daniels by identical 6-0 scores at fourth singles before Hannah Jenkins did likewise against Chelsea Stanley in fifth singles. Kayla Chappell closed singles action by upending LMA’s Alea Thompson, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play,TSA’s first doubles tandem of Green and Decker shut out Jackson/Osteen, 8-0. Burress and Jenkins then won, 8-4, over LMA partners McInnis and Stanley. Sydney Long and Kyndall Locklear would complete the shutout as the beat the LMA team of Julia Morris and Katherine Daniels, 8-1.

The Lady Generals will return to the court next Tuesday in a 4 p.m. match against Robert E. Lee Academy at the Palmetto Tennis Center (PTC.) One day later, the TSA girls will face rival Wilson Hall, also at the PTC.
