Camden duo plays key role in TSA JV tennis victory

Helped by a pair of Camden residents, the Thomas Sumter Academy junior varsity girls’ tennis team opened its 2011 season with an 8-1 win over Robert E. Lee Academy in a Tuesday afternoon match.

Camden’s Morgan Houde won her match at third singles with an 8-1 victory over Caroline Harrelson. In sixth singles, Camden’s Meg McFarland shut out Laney Copell, 8-0.

Houde and McFarland both won their respective doubles matches as Houde paired with Anastasia Patterson for an 8-5 win over Harrelson and Alex White. McFarland was joined by teammate Jenna Edenfield as they took down Copell and Pamela Kelly, 8-1.

TSA swept singles action starting with Becca Jenkins’ 8-3 win over Hartley Craven at first singles. Aileen Twoeig then breezed past Harrelson, 8-1. Patterson and Edenfield won at fourth and fifth singles as they downed White and Kelly by the scores of 8-4 and 8-1, respectively.

Robert E. Lee’s lone win came at first doubles and Craven and Harrelson combined to upend Jenkins and Twoeig, 8-5.
