The 6th Annual Race to Read is sponsored by KershawHealth. In the upcoming weeks, Betsy Long, media specialist at Doby’s Mill Elementary, has set a goal to get 150 registrations. So far, 120 have signed up. This is the first year that Race to Read has included an 8K race, and according to Long, the school is hoping for a big turnout. Proceeds go to the early literacy efforts of the Kershaw County Public Library. There will be healthy snacks, health screenings and door prizes at the finish line. Packet pickup is Friday, Oct. 22 from 1 to 7 p.m., which coincides with DME's Health, Fitness, and Conservation Fair from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Free vendors, a bounce house, Wii Games, and other attractions will provide a great, healthy time for all ages. For more information about Race to Read, Long can be reached at 438-4055, ext. 8448.
