Proposed Y affects more than 'city' residents

Given the unsuccessful record of the previous YMCAs in Camden, what is the city leaders’ backup plan if the Columbia Y loses money, breaks its lease, and vacates? Who will operate this sports center in that case?

Many of us who do not live in the city limits, but in areas such as east Camden, Cool Springs, Kirkwood, Lafayette, etc., and are dependent upon Camden power and water, are most concerned that the city will raise taxes and utility rates in order to operate this sports center.

Many of the signatures on the ''no Y petition'' are of non-city residents who cannot vote in a city election, yet are dependent on Camden utilities and thus have viable concerns. It doesn’t seem quite right that the voices of these people evidently mean nothing regarding this issue.
