Trucks

Do you hate sharing the highway with trucks? I thought I did, too. The big 18-wheelers travel, loaded with tons of stuff. They creep up the hills so slowly that you try to get around them. But then they get to the top of the hill. They barrel down so fast you can’t catch them.

I found out one stormy night that it was a blessing to follow a truck. I was able to back off a bit. Then the truck’s lights lighted the way ahead, and I had the additional help from my own lights. His lights “blazed the trail” for me. I could see where the road had curves and bumps.

We traveled last week and got behind three trucks. They were power trucks. We thought they must be coming home from somewhere. Then we saw their South Carolina tags. On the door of the trucks, we read, “Sumter Utilities.” They were our neighbors on the way to help people who lost power in the storms. Later, we saw six power trucks going the same way!

We remembered the trucks we see unloading food at our grocery store. Many of the things we need come to us in trucks. It’s true what they say: “If you have it, a truck brought it!”

Word List: thought, wheelers, additional, traveled.
