Let people speak through referendum

I would like for Camden City Council to slow down in making a decision about building a sports complex in Camden on the property at the Mather Academy site. Although I haven’t spoken with council members individually, I am asking them collectively to allow this decision to be made by the people of this county.

The project will ultimately affect every person paying taxes in this city and county. I urge the mayor and council to provide for a referendum, allowing voters to make the important decision on whether or not to obligate us all to a YMCA or sports complex. It’s likely that the majority in our city and county are experiencing a negative impact in the current recession.

As I said before, those who speak out about this issue don’t want to be considered wrong just because our view is different from those who are promoting the project. By having a referendum, the city leaders will know for sure what the majority wants – please hear the people.
