God’s Helpers will celebrate its 10th annual Mother/Daughter Banquet, Saturday, at 5 p.m. at the Kershaw County Recreation Department. A love donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years of age is requested. The guest speaker will be Rev. Tiffany Knowlin (left) of College Place United Methodist Church, Columbia. For tickets or additional information, contact Mary E. Smith at 425-7883 or Viola Engram at 713-0928.

Knowlin is the daughter of Marvin and Diane Knowlin. Her spiritual faith was nurtured in Springville United Methodist Church in Marion. She is the niece of Shirley Lester Halley of Camden. She graduated summa cum lade, earning a B.S. degree in Chemistry in May 2003 from Columbia College and in May 2006, graduated from Candler School of Theology-Emory University, Atlanta, with a Master of Divinity degree.

Prior to graduating, Knowlin spent her last semester of seminary in Washington, D.C. studying ethics, theology and public policy. She worked for Congressman James Clyburn. As a consequence of her D.C. experience, Knowlin enrolled in Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University. In 2008, she graduated with a Masters degree in Urban Policy Studies.

Knowlin said she “praises God for how richly He has and is blessing her.” She daily commits herself to “being about her Father’s business of loving and serving God and God’s people.”
