Mary Eva Gilchrist

Mary Eva Johnson Gilchrist, 95, widow of Wilson Chandler Gilchrist, of Sumter, died Monday, September 26, 2011 at a local nursing home.

Born March 30, 1916 in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Charles Power Johnson and the late Mary Eva Richardson Johnson.

Mrs. Gilchrist was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1945 and also a member of the Trinity Fellowship Class. She was also a charter member of the UMW.

Surviving are a son, Michael C. Gilchrist (Linda) of Elgin; a daughter, Janis Gilchrist Helsel (Steven) of Florence; a sister, Dorris Johnson Engle of West Columbia; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Gorry and Rev. Stephen Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Trinity Fellowship Class.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 P.M. Friday preceding the service at Trinity United Methodist Church.
