I would like to take this opportunity to say a big “thank you” to the Trivetts, owners of the Little Theatre in Camden. They very generously reduced the price of tickets for the movie “Courageous” and also donated tickets to all law enforcement officers in Kershaw County. “Courageous” was not just another Hollywood movie. A church in Georgia puts it on and the actors are actually members of the congregation and staff. Now that in itself might keep some people from going. A “Christian” movie with regular people doing the acting. Sounds to some like a low B grade movie. But this movie was phenomenal. The acting was excellent, the plot was excellent, and the message behind it was outstanding. It was very well done.

Many of my deputies and staff attended and were deeply moved by it, as was I. I could not help but think that every father in Kershaw County should see this movie. Many of the problems my deputies deal with are the result of damaged people, most of whom come from broken homes or who were raised without the influence of a loving father. Boys without a father are especially vulnerable. I hate to say it, but our jails are filling up with young men, black and white, who just do not have a positive male role model in their lives to steer them the right way. As a result, drugs, gangs and other criminal activity is the only way they know.

If you are a father, have children and care about them, I strongly urge you to attend this movie. It is well done. It has a positive message and I promise it will change your life for the better. The tickets are only $5. It will be the best investment you can make in the life of your children. You can get an idea of what the movie is about by googling “Courageous the movie.” Thanks again to the Trivetts for making this movie happen in Camden where our Little Theatre normally does not qualify for a premier showing of a movie.
