A Camden woman was alledgedly kidnapped from the Camden May Plant Credit Union’s ATM Saturday morning, according to officials.

Camden Police Chief Joe Floyd said the woman was found unharmed and was transported from Hendersonville, N.C. back to Camden Sunday.

After the women was alledgedly kidnapped, she made a phone call to her grandmother, Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said, but as soon as she spoke with her grandmother the phone went dead.

From there, Matthews said, the grandmother contacted dispatch, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was notified and a statewide search was underway with a description of a possible vehicle and suspect.

The search was widened to North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia, Matthews said.

A North Carolina state trooper spotted the vehicle and suspect at a rest stop on Interstate 40, but the suspect fled the scene.

Both Floyd and Matthews said no more details about the case were available at press time.

“We have no real details about what exactly happened and why it happened,” Matthews said. “But there are some problems with her story.”
