Camden’s Y campaign similar to Revolution

Watching the goings-on with this suggested TIF tax revenue project, I would like to remind the Camden council and the citizens of Camden of the efforts of their forefathers in just about the same situation.

The Revolutionary War of 1776 experienced battles fought in Camden over taxation without representation with Great Britain, which brought about the United States of America.

Needless to say, the powers to be in Great Britain must have had the same attitude back then as your council does today.  They must feel they speak for the whole of Camden and will decide the future of the city and its finances without approval of the taxpayers.  To think they can tie up a tax such as the resort tax of which your citizens passed, and not let any other development be recognized because of the YMCA project would be a disaster to the city.  The council has put all their apples into one basket, namely the YMCA project. Will the council come back to the citizens of Camden for more taxation for future projects? I would hope not. The council could be signing its own death warrant for future elections anywhere in the state.

Maybe they have already. Who knows?

From: a very interested taxpayer to Camden, when I dine in your town.
