School board to continue priorities discussion

The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees will continue discussing its priorities for the 2015-16 school year during its meeting Tuesday night. At its last meeting, Feb. 3, the board focused on employee compensation as its top priority for the next school year's budget.

KH offers county $2.6 million to take EMS

KershawHealth is offering to make a "one-time and final payment" of $2.636 million for Kershaw County to take over emergency medical services (EMS). The KershawHealth Board of Trustees voted, 8-1, to make the offer following an executive session at the end of its meeting Monday night. Board Vice Chair Dr. Tallulah Holmstrom cast the lone "no" vote.

KershawHealth board to continue Capella, EMS discussions

The KershawHealth Board of Trustees will continue discussing its pending lease/purchase deal with Capella Healthcare of Tennessee and the proposed transfer of emergency medical services (EMS) to Kershaw County. The board will receive legal advice on these issues in executive session near the end of its meeting tonight at the Health Resource Center on Battleship Road in Camden.

As one of the earliest steps in creating an operational budget for the 2015-16 school year, members of the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees each picked their top two priorities when it comes to finances. Overwhelmingly, trustees chose "teacher compensation" or "overall compensation" as their top picks.

Stover, Blaney take first places in regional archery tournament

Archery teams from Leslie M. Stover Middle School (LSMS) and Blaney Elementary School (BES) placed first in the middle and elementary school division, respectively, during a regional tournament Saturday. A team from the Applied Technology Education Campus (ATEC) placed third in the high school division.

City creating park at former Maxway site

The city of Camden is, at least temporarily, creating a park out of the former Maxway department store site on the northwest corner of Broad and Rutledge streets. City Manager Mel Pearson said work started recently with the addition of decorative lights.

District to present leadership development plan to school board

Steve Abbott, Kershaw County School District (KCSD) director for professional development, will present a district leadership development plan -- also being called a succession plan -- to the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees. Host of changes proposed to Camden zoning ordinance

It may become illegal for Camden residents to own a rooster. It's one of a long list of changes proposed by the Camden Planning Commission (CPC) to the city's zoning ordinance. The proposed changes are the result of two years worth of work by the CPC -- which met 26 different times -- to modernize, streamline and otherwise make zoning regulations in Camden easier to follow, according to Camden Planner Shawn Putnam.
