Cahn: ‘Madam Secretary’ is terrific TV

From 1999 to 2006, I tuned in to every episode of "The West Wing" starring Martin Sheen. It was one of the smartest shows I've ever watched with a superb cast and excellent writing. Like every television show, it had its ups and downs. Its detractors felt it was too idyllic and -- being an Aaron Sorkin product, like "The Newsroom" in more recent years -- too preachy.

A man of reconciliation

There is likely no one word to describe attorney John Stringer Rainey, who died at the age of 73 on Saturday following a short illness. The one most usually ascribed to him is "philanthropist." One dictionary definition of the word states a philanthropist is "a person who seeks to promote the welfare of others, especially by the generous of money to good causes." In speaking with those who knew him well, or who came to know him in recent years because of their involvement with him, one finds John Rainey went beyond mere philanthropy. That could easily be said of ...

Cahn: When justice is derailed, we all lose

I'm not the bloodthirsty sort. I don't usually cry out for devastating vengeance against groups or individuals. If there was one person I wanted to know was heading to the electric chair, however, it was Nickolas Jermaine Miller, who will now spend the rest of his life in prison without parole for brutally murdering Beverly Hope Melton in December 2011.
