Sixty percent of CBA members against road diet

A Camden Business Alliance (CBA) straw poll of its members show that 60 percent of the respondents are not in favor, or have serious reservations about, a proposed "road diet" of Broad Street. The poll was conducted June 12-19, a week after CBA's quarterly Business Before Hours meeting featuring representatives from an engineering firm and the S.C. Department of Transportation (DOT).

School board passes 2013-14 budget

The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees unanimously passed, 6-0, the Kershaw County School District's (KCSD) $69 million budget for the 2013-14 school year. Trustees Louis Clyburn, Don Copley and Nissary Wood were absent from the June 4 meeting at the district's offices.

Woman shoots at burglary suspects

A homeowner shot at three burglary suspects after they set off her alarm system, waking her up during the early morning hours of June 1. The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) tracked down and arrested the three young men shortly afterward.

KCSO named in wrongful death lawsuit

The family of a man who died in 2011 after being arrested by the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office recently filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO). The suit, filed May 24, alleges that the actions of Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews and his deputies, led to the death of David Lynn Tyler on May 27, 2011.
