The Kershaw County School District (KCSD) is petitioning the city of Camden for annexation of its new district offices on West DeKalb Street. The former corporate office of Howden Buffalo is one of the few developed properties on the eastbound side of West DeKalb Street between Springdale Drive and Wylie Street not already in the city limits of Camden.
KershawHealth hopes to earn more than $2.88 million in net income during its 2012 fiscal year which began Oct. 1. The KershawHealth Board of Trustees approved the budget more than a week after the fiscal year began during an Oct. 10 meeting at the healthcare system's Health Resource Center. The board also approved a capital budget -- used for construction, renovations and equipment purchases -- of $8.07 million.
An interesting personal statistic (one I didn't realize until a few days ago): I have been out of the radio broadcasting business for longer than I was in it. I actually passed that landmark more than a year ago. I worked at radio stations, on and off, for 14 years, ending in the summer of 1995. That was 16 years ago. Where has the time gone?
The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) arrested a former deputy early Wednesday morning, charging him with first degree criminal sexual conduct with a child under 11 years of age. Sheriff Jim Matthews confirmed that Nakia Karrien Johnson, 36, who currently serves with the Fairfax Police Department in Allendale County, worked as a KCSO deputy from November 1999 to April 2001.

Camden City Council's creation of a nearly 127-acre tax increment financing, or TIF, district is another step closer to reality following a 4-1 vote Tuesday night. The vote came after a public hearing on the proposed ordinance that would establish both a redevelopment plan for the district and its proposed borders.
Camden residents will get to have their say about whether the city of Camden should create a nearly 127-acre redevelopment project area, which will also be designated as a tax increment financing, or TIF, district.

Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said he was unsure of exactly what charges 24-year-old Franklin Graham of Columbia may face from other jurisdictions.

In a few weeks, five cadets from Camden Military Academy (CMA) will travel to the University of Maryland's main campus in College Park, Md., to represent South Carolina in the annual National History Day competition. The contest will be held June 14-18.
Maggie Davis was 12 years old when she began babysitting for the late Dr. David Joseph on Kennedy Drive. The Josephs had just moved to Camden from Georgetown in 1953. Eight years later, after graduating from high school in 1961, David Joseph, who died in 1992, hired Davis to work in his dental practice's lab.
