Sheheen’s message is the right one

Record 24 amendments to proposed county budget

Kershaw County Council unanimously approved a record 24 amendments to the county's proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 budget and then unanimously passed that amended budget on second reading, with Councilman Jimmy Jones absent. Councilman Sammie Tucker Jr. made the long motion to include the 24 amendments, most, if not all, of which his fellow councilmen appeared to expect.

Two injured in DUI wreck in Camden

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel transported a Camden woman and her daughter to KershawHealth and then further transported the daughter to a Columbia hospital by air following a two-vehicle collision around 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 at the intersection of West DeKalb Street and Battleship Road.

Reading makes you well-rounded

The British newspaper Independent recently published an article titled "32 books that will make you a well-rounded person." The author was one of the publication's business reporters, Catherine Rice, so I'm not sure how ... um ... literally (yes, I know, you're groaning) I should take the list. In fact, a lot of people commenting on the article's webpage basically called it rubbish.

Trustees debate North Central principal 'promise'

2017 All-County Academic team honored

For the 22nd year, the Kershaw County School District (KCSD) and Upchurch & Jowers Insurance Agency honored the top 10 students, in terms of academic achievements, from each of the district's three high schools. The 30 students making up the 2017 All-County Academic Team celebrated with their families, teachers, guidance counselors, principals and others at Bethesda Presbyterian Church on April 24.

Man sentenced to 15 years for sexually assaulting girl

A man who had been the longest-held detainee at the Kershaw County Detention Center (KCDC) will now spend much of the next 15 years in a South Carolina prison for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl in 2014.
