Margaret Gilchrist

Mrs. Margaret Williams Gilchrist, 75, of 1448 Hettie Richette Road, Cassatt, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Born in Cassatt, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Gilchrist. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Red Hill Baptist Church, Cassatt, with burial in Dubose Cemetary, Cassatt. First Baptist Church student ministry gives back to Food for the Soul

First Baptist Church Camden Set Apart Student Ministry recently helped the local food pantry Food for the Soul. On Feb. 15, the students of First Baptist served the community by packing personal hygiene bags to be handed out to those in need at Food for the Soul and helped clean their facilities by scrubbing baseboards, bathrooms and wiping down walls.

Howard and Cornelia (Keys) Joy celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Nov. 25. The couple was married in Camden and together they have five children: Audrey Joy of Allentown, Pa., Howard Joy Jr. (Nancy) of Dover, N.J., Karen Joy-Wilson (Isaac) of Piscataway, N.J., Michael Joy of Kanas City, Mo. and Gregory Joy (Dana) of Bonaire, Ga. On Sept. 28, 1789, according to a government website, the First Federal Congress passed a resolution asking President George Washington recommend to the nation a day of thanksgiving. The site goes on to describe what happened: a few days later, Washington issued a proclamation naming Thursday, Nov. 26, 1789, as a "day of public thanksgiving" -- the first time the holiday was celebrated by our fledgling country.
