It is truly "unthinkable" that the Kershaw County Democratic Party would certify Sammie Tucker Jr. as a candidate for public office. To entertain that idea is ludicrous! To readily admit to people that he is not only an incumbent candidate for office but is actually the current Kershaw County Council Vice Chairman should be embarrassing to all citizens of Kershaw County. Realize, too, that Mr. Tucker is set to have no opposition!! Have our citizens completely given up on our political system? Are they now satisfied to let "whatever happens happen?"

Herbert Cooke's father worked for the city of Camden. His job was to take care of the city streets. He used either the city's mules, horses or oxen and a bamboo apparatus to clean the brick streets. Nancy Ogburn and George Sandy can recall the brick streets around the old city hall which was located on Rutledge Street.
We've said on prior occasions that governmental entities sometimes tend to go overboard on paying taxpayer money to hire consultants, but Camden City Council might do well to follow through on its idea to use a firm that will help conduct citizen surveys. Mayor Jeffrey Graham and council members have been bold in undertaking major initiatives but there is a perception among some that they have been unwilling to listen to those who disagree with them. Of course, we've also said that there's a difference in being unwilling to listen and in listening but not agreeing. In ...

We offer our condolences to the family, friends and all of us who benefited from Sylvia Upton "Sibby" Wood's life. Wood, also known as "Sib," supported or was otherwise involved in so many things here in Kershaw County, they are almost too numerous to count. But count them we shall try as we mourn her death last week in Michigan at the age of 81.
Many people have crossed the path of my life, but only one crossed it from three different directions. Don Light, one of Nashville's most admired powerbrokers and star makers, was meant to be part of my life. I say this repeatedly because I encountered him through friends in country music, Southern gospel and NASCAR racing.
Recently, the United States Supreme Court saved the Affordable Care Act for generations to come. Many conservatives and the GOP seemed woefully ignorant of our healthcare system.

When we examine our experiences over time, our recollections of some of them stand out like posts supporting our "fence of life." These are memories we will never forget. Some refer to them as "muscle" memories, very strong ones.

While Ben Franklin was key to the crafting of the Declaration of Independence, the other Founding Fathers did not want him to be the main author - as they felt they couldn't trust him not to put a joke in it!
