Jerome Goodwin officiated the double-ring ceremony at 2:00 p.m. The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. While tornadoes give little warning for evacuation, hurricanes can give enough lead time to actually move people and horses out of the storm's expected path. The essentiality of journalism

In 2005 when their city drowned, the staff of the New Orleans Times-Picayune stayed in it longer than common sense and simple prudence would dictate. People who had lost homes, loved ones, and their city itself concentrated on gathering the news and putting it out. They finally left huddled in newspaper delivery trucks, water up to the headlights, decamping to Baton Rouge, 75 miles away, where they went right back to reporting the news.

LFD discovers alligator after fighting fire

Members of the Lugoff Fire Department (LFD) made a startling discovery while checking possible damage from an apartment fire June 18: a young American alligator. According to LFD Chief Dennis Ray, firefighters weren't even in the damaged unit at Lugoff's Lynwood apartment complex off Frenwood Lane when they found the alligator.

• Cycling legend Lance Armstrong has again been accused of cheating by using illegal performance-enhancing drugs, with accusations made by the U.S. Anti-Doping Association. Armstrong has been accused of the same offense multiple times in the past though nobody has ever offered concrete evidence that's been proven. If Armstrong is guilty, then he should be punished, but any new charges should be quickly proven or given up.

Wife in child sex abuse case posts bond

A Kershaw County woman accused of looking the other way as her husband sexually abused their two daughters for more than six years posted bond Wednesday. A magistrate set a cash surety bond at $30,000 for Kelly Browning, charged earlier this week by the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office with two counts of unlawful neglect upon a child.

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are gray and white male cat and a Lokey, 5-year-old neutered male Jack Russell mix. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The shelter, located at the south end of Fair Street and managed by the Kershaw County Humane Society, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
