A better way to reform welfare

When President Clinton signed landmark welfare-reform legislation in 1996, he said it would "end welfare as we know it." Wrong verb. More accurately, it changed welfare as we know it.

Team Doby's Mill

Doby's Mill Elementary School hosted a mini Relay for Life on a recent half-day of school. Students who brought in $1 to support finding a cure for cancer were allowed to wear a hat all day and walk on the school's fitness trail during their Related Arts period. Participants include Rebecca Thrall's third-grade class, with Tech Lab teacher Amanda Raper. More than $400 was raised for Relay for Life through this event.

Bloomsbury Inn recipe recognized by University of Georgia

The University of Georgia recently hosted a meal plan special event which featured a fruit dish from Bloomsbury Inn. The presentation, A Sunset Breakfast, featured menu items from select bed and breakfasts from across the United States. The Bloomsbury Cold Fruit Soup was one of three fruit selections presented. Former Camdenite Manda McKay's painting "Love You To Death" won "Best In Show" at Southworks 2013. The Oconee County Arts Foundation (OCAF) hosted the opening reception April 12 in Watkinsville, Georgia. McKay grew up in Camden and graduated from Camden High School.
