Last year President Obama approved a budget plan that would change the way Social Security increases are calculated, moving them from a process determined by the consumer price index to one set by a process known as chained consumer price index. That was encouraging to the millions of Americans who are concerned about the runaway spending problems that are threatening the nation's economy. Many economists favor the chained concept as being a more accurate way to measure the rate of inflation.

The Junior Miss Gold and Black and Miss Gold and Black pageants were held on Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8. The pageants are sponsored by the Camden Bulldog Club as a fundraiser for the club's efforts to provide for all of the athletic teams at Camden High.
For the month of January, the Pine Grove Baptist Church AWANA youth ministry conducted a canned and non-perishable food drive for a monthly mission project supported by members of the church. January was titled as "Can-Do Anything" month based on the scripture Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." With a goal of 1000 food items for the project, AWANA clubbers and church members brought in more than 1700 items of food. Kenneth Jones, 51, of Granger Street, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 in Burlington, VT. Kenneth was born in Camden, SC to Lewis Jones Sr. and Simmlean Jones. Kenneth was educated in the local schools of Lugoff, SC. After graduating from Lugoff Elgin High School he was employed at Richtex Brickyard, Diamant Boart of America, and Shoney's of SC. In 2001 he relocated to Bellows Falls, VT where he was employed at Melsur and Heath Care and Rehabilitation Services. He was recently employed at Whitney Blake Company until his health failed and retired on January 11, 2014.
