Boykin Spaniel Society donates reward money

The Boykin Spaniel Society, official breed registry for the South Carolina State Dog, is donating $500 to a reward fund established by St. Francis Animal Center in Georgetown for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for the torture and death of a Boykin Spaniel and Labrador Retriever whose bodies were discovered dumped in the International Paper Co. Canal on Brick Chimney Road on July 5. Donations to the fund now total more than $5,000 and it is hoped that the reward will entice someone to step forward with information. L-EHS posts supply lists on free website

Parents hoping to connect with their children's teachers at Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS) have another tool at their disposal this year, as the school's supply lists and wish lists are now posted on the free TeacherLists.com website. Parents can easily find exactly the supplies the kids need for back-to-school and -- perhaps more importantly -- the extra supplies that teachers feel would make for an even more effective classroom.

Member of the Year

Great things are accomplished one task at a time by one American Legion Auxiliary member at a time: one offer of help to the wife of a deployed serviceman; one volunteer assisting with a community blood drive; one friendly invitation to another woman to join the Auxiliary. The efforts of our members add up to millions of hours and millions of dollars annually in service of the Auxiliary's mission. Deacon Henry Forman, 84, of 407 East Glendale Drive, Florence and formerly of Camden, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 11, 2012. Born in Lee County, he was the son of the late Richard Forman, Sr. and Priscilla Lewis Forman Haggins. Memorial services were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, with burial in Fair Lawn Cemetery, Paterson, New Jersey. Brown's Funeral Home, Camden served the Forman family.

Mr. James Epps "Jimmy" Snydor, Jr., 66, of 256 Lila D Lane, Camden, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. ‘Fire Stop’ extinguisher puts out kitchen fire

Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) crews arrived at the scene of a reported kitchen fire at Sherwood Apartments around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to find only a light haze of smoke, but no fire. According to a LF-R press release, an automatic fire extinguisher magnetically attached to the stove hood had activated and extinguished the grease fire before it spread into the rest of the kitchen and apartment.
