Editorial: Spending run amok

Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma has long waged a campaign against the excessive government spending that has become the rule rather than the exception in Washington. For several years, he has published his "wastebook," which details some of the most egregious money-wasting projects of the federal government. Coburn's stepping down from his senatorial slot, and has released the last of his wastebooks. Some, as usual, defy comprehension. Here, according to one national media outlet, are some of the most glaring examples of how Uncle Sam can throw your money away.

Letter: Be careful on social media

I read Simone T. Owens column on "Social media is to blame?" today with interest and I have to agree with many of her comments. Her comment "to allow people to connect instantaneously and see and read what close acquaintances and friends were doing anywhere in the world" is quite true. It allows anyone reading Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others to read what that person has posted unless they have made every effort for their posts to be private. Even then "private" has a lot of holes in it.

Registration is open for Baseball camp

Camden High School and the Kershaw County Recreation Department are hosting the Michael Kohn Baseball Camp on December 14, 1-4 p.m.. The camp will be held at the American Legion Baseball Field and is open for children ages 7-14. The old CLC gym will be the back up location in the event of bad weather. The cost is $25.
