A honey of a year

This year was one of the best for my honeybees. At the beginning of spring, I never would have predicted such productivity. We had several surprises, but I'll discuss one in particular. Each spring, a beehive tends to "swarm." Most of us have heard of a bee swarm, but you may be amazed by the biology behind this bewildering bee business.

Funeral services for Gladys Wright Andrews, age 84, who passed away October 6, will be held Wednesday at 5:00 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Larry DiBiase celebrated the 25th anniversary of his State Farm Insurance agency by holding a fundraising cook-out, complete with radio broadcast, games and door prizes at the agency's revamped offices on West DeKalb Street. All proceeds from the event -- $600 -- went to the KershawHealth Foundation to benefit oncology services at KershawHealth.

Kershaw County SAT scores see largest increase in Midlands

Kershaw County 2014 seniors' SAT average composite score jumped 29 points in the same year that the percentage of test takers rose from 46 to 54 percent. According to the Kershaw County School District (KCSD), his was the largest increase by any school district in the Midlands.
