It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Our Public Works Department Street and Electric crews have been diligently working to decorate the city for Christmas. I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet, but it takes time for us to deck the halls for December. Thanks to their efforts we'll have decorated light poles throughout the downtown and several lit Christmas trees.

Camden man charged with molesting 9-year-old

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies charged a Camden man Tuesday with third-degree criminal sexual conduct after turning himself in over accusations he inappropriately touched a 9-year-old girl. In a statement released Wednesday, the KCSO identified the man as Christopher D. Yates, of Lakeshore Drive, Camden. Deputies interviewed him with his attorney present before charging him.

William "Bill" Stradford

Mr. William "Bill" Stradford, Sr., 80, of Camden, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Born in Camden, South Carolina, he was the husband of Constance Henderson Stradford and the son of the late Ned, Sr. and Marie Boyd Stradford. A Celebration of Life and Homegoing Services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2013, at 12 p.m., at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, Camden. Barbara Owens Brazell

A Funeral Service to honor the life of Barbara O. Brazell, 72, will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Keith Coates will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Teddy Elliott, Bobby Young, Mark Tryon, Jamie Owens, Charles Owens Jr., Shay Owens, and Jason Owens will serve as pallbearers for the family.

Dabney family members await new book The Dabneys of South Carolina

A group of Dabney family members from across the state met in late October to preview plans for a new book, The Dabneys of South Carolina, to be published in early 2014. The event was hosted by Doris Faye Vinson at her home in Camden. The authors of the new book are John Edward Dabney, a native of Rock Hill, who presently resides in New Jersey, and his cousin, Joseph Earl Dabney, a native of Kershaw, who lives in Atlanta. Joseph Dabney is also an award-winning author and writer of several books.

FAC and city of Camden announce plans for second annual ‘Horsing around on the Town Green’ event

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County and the City of Camden are pleased to present an evening of entertainment to kick off the Colonial Cup weekend on Friday. Now in its second year, this free and exciting event will begin at 6 p.m. with food and drink vendors along with music on the Town Green. The Root Doctors, a popular cover and dance band, will take the stage at 7 p.m.
