Give YMCA, our children a chance

Our family moved to Camden in 2004 from the Dallas area. My wife Amy grew up here, so we were excited to have the opportunity to move to Camden to raise our children in a small town. I am a CPA and Partner with Grant Thornton LLP in Columbia. The YMCA has had a wonderful influence on my life and career. I am hopeful that City Council will move forward with the plan to bring a Y to our town.

Column: Big green city

One of the things I enjoy most about what I do is being invited to cities around the country. Whether I'm speaking at conferences, banding birds or taking part in archaeological digs, I look forward to being able to spend time in places that are different from small town South Carolina. One of the draws for me is getting to see the way other places address conservation issues. I absolutely love seeing the various approaches to environmental issues by municipalities and hearing ideas from diverse groups of conservationists. Obama and race

Attorney General Eric Holder's recent statement that race plays a part in some Americans' opposition to President Obama's policies has stirred strong reaction from both liberals and conservatives, and reaction has highlighted the fact -- no surprise here -- that blacks and whites often look at issues of race differently.
