Local dancers to perform at Outback Bowl

Last summer, 13 dancers from Palmetto Dance Center in Elgin were selected to be a part of the half-time show for the 2013 Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla. Little did they know they would be performing in front of a home crowd of Gamecock fans! The dancers were the only ones selected from South Carolina to perform and will be joining 300 other dancers from across the U.S. to perform both in the pre-game and half-time show. All dancers begin rehearsals Dec. 28 and will practice up until the game on New Year's Day.

Tim Scott

Rep. Tim Scott became the immediate front-runner to succeed Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina after DeMint announced he would resign to run the Heritage Foundation, perhaps the pre-eminent conservative think tank in the country. (As an aside, we've seen lots of philosophical mumbo-jumbo come out of think tanks, both conservative and liberal, but very little workable policy.) Other names were bandied about, the strangest one being Jenny Sanford, former wife of the Palmetto State's philandering ex-governor, Mark Sanford.

No ‘Detroit’ here!

Hopefully there are no echoes of a "little Detroit" here in Kershaw County and never will be any time ever. May we never get that low to assume that just because of a vote that a bailout is owed or is coming to save you. Can you imagine voting for someone just so you can use your vote against them? Amazingly, some councilwoman on the Detroit City Council thinks her Obama vote will cast her area a granted "bailout" vote. This news segment was aired by Fox News December 5, 2012. Some people with positions do forget just where they ...

Memory of Christmas past

I enjoyed watching this year's Christmas parade with (Kershaw County School District Superintendent Dr.) Frank Morgan standing in front of Greenleaf Villa. Reflecting on it now, I must share with your readers the fact that there is nothing like a small town Christmas parade. Having personally participated in a more than a dozen, I can honestly speak of the joy and excitement of being in such a parade.
