Plant Sex Ed

Do all plants have flowers? It is a timely topic in spring, with flowers abounding and air that is laden with pesky pollen. Like any good love story, plant sex has no paucity of details and drama. To make our investigation easier, we can divide plants into four groups. They all do it differently, in ways that make a lot of sexual sense depending on the respective environment.

Bessie D. English

On Friday, April 5, 2013, Mrs.Bessie D. English slipped peacefully into the arms of her loving Savior. She was 94. Mrs. English was born September 29, 1918 in New York City, but lived most of her early years in Franklin, Virginia. She was the daughter of Sr. Lieutenant Clyde Hudson and Bessie May Dougherty and the wife of Matthew D. "Jim" English.

Santee-Lynches workforce investment board donates laptops to Kershaw County Library

Santee-Lynches Workforce Investment Board recently purchased three laptops for use by patrons of the Kershaw County Library Camden Branch. The Camden Library currently has fourteen public computers. Last year, public computers in the Camden Library were used for over 55,000 sessions. A survey of public computer users suggests that approximately 40 percent of these sessions were related to jobs or education.

Bloodhound team apprehends two burglary suspects

April 5, the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office arrested 18-year-old Austin Colvin from Lugoff and a 16- year-old juvenile, also from Lugoff, after they broke into the Lucky 7 convenience store on Highway 1 South in Lugoff.
