Funeral service for Stephanie Denise Robinson, 38, of Clinton, Maryland, will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery, Camden. Miss Robinson will be placed in the church at noon for viewing.
Youth ages 8 and up can have a ball at volleyball camp July 11-15, which will offer instruction for beginner and intermediate players.

South Carolina baseball fans have plenty to crow about with the Gamecocks having won their second consecutive national championship, a feat that has been accomplished only a few times prior to this year. In the process, the team swept through the post-season playoffs without a loss, setting a record for consecutive playoff victories. The most exciting part was that USC was not a team that just lined up and mowed down the opposition without pausing; the Gamecocks got themselves into plenty of tight spots along the way and always managed to extricate themselves without major problems occurring. Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are Marie, a 3-year-old female gray tabby cat, and Trooper, a 7-year-old male Great Pyrenees dog. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The Kershaw County Dixie Majors (ages 15-16) baseball team will begin post-season play on Saturday when the West Wateree-based team heads to Seven Oaks Park in Irmo for the District 6 tournament.
It was a good weekend for the Camden-based AAU SC Ballers (11 and under) and the TBallers (14 and under) basketball teams, which traveled to Dallas, Ga. for the Wolfpack Elite Summer Jam AAU Basketball Tournament. Both teams, coached by Willie Dubose, came away with their respective tournament championships.
The Hobkirk Hill Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution presented medals to JROTC students and "Good Citizens" at the Kershaw-Cornwallis House at Historic Camden Revolutionary War Park on May 12. The Daughters of the American Revolution's time honored objectives of perpetuating the memory of those who achieved American independence, promoting an enlightened public and fostering patriotic citizenship are certainly realized when we honor these exceptional young Americans.
Camden's Carley Powers, Miss River City, competed in swimsuit during Tuesday night's preliminary competition in The Miss South Carolina Pageant. A new Miss SC will be crowned Saturday night at the Township Auditorium. Miss Camden 2011, Sallie Pierce, competed in the evening gown portion in Tuesday night's preliminary competition at the Miss SC Pageant. Finals are tomorrow evening at the Township Auditorium in Columbia. This is the pageant's 75th Anniversary and the first time ever being held in Columbia.
The Camden Rotary Club made a donation of $2,500 as the first donor to the Pass the Plate FOOD FOR THE SOUL fund raiser. Food for the Soul director, Fred Ogburn (left) and board chair, Carl Robinson (center) accept the donation from Donny Supplee (right), president of Camden Rotary Club. Kershaw County Council will hold a public hearing on and consider third and final reading of an ordinance approving the development of a joint county industrial park with Chesterfield County. The public hearing and consideration of the ordinance are scheduled for council's meeting Tuesday evening.
The Camden High School Bulldog Club membership drive is in full swing for the 2014-2015 school year. The organization, founded in 1952, provides financial assistance to all athletic programs at the school through the membership drive and various fundraising activities.
