The ramp

The C-130 was parked on the tarmac, her rear door open, yawning in the afternoon sun. The small, relatively quiet corner of the runway in which she was parked stood in contrast to the hustle and bustle of the surrounding airfield. The base, elsewhere, was alive with activity. This made perfect sense given that this was a warzone; schedules had to be kept, deadlines had to be met, missions had to be completed. Her crew had dispersed, but she remained, alone and waiting. KershawHealth Foundation, racing association fund lithotripter center

Last year the KershawHealth Foundation made a grant of $210,000 for the purchase of a lithotripter, which uses sound waves to break up kidney stones into tiny pieces that are easily passed. This grant, along with $90,000 from the Carolina Cup Racing Association, which annually provides funding to KershawHealth from the running of the Carolina and Colonial Cups, made the purchase possible.

Roger L. Brock

Roger L. Brock died on June 2nd at Warriors Walk in the Dorn VA Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 10, 1952, he was the eldest son of Earl Lee and Dorothy Eunice Wilson Brock. He retired from the U.S. Navy Submarine Service after 20 years and retired a second time from the City of Camden.

Happy 50th Anniversary!

David and Brenda Cole of Camden celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary June 3, 2011. They were honored with a surprise luncheon with family and friends June 4, 2011 at Springvale Baptist Church in Lugoff. The couple was married June 3, in Charlotte, North Carolina. They have three children: Brent Cole and wife Sharon of Lugoff, Lorrie Scudder and husband Keith of Sumter, and Terry Lynn Higgins and husband David of Camden. They have six grandchildren: Austin Higgins, Brady Higgins, Hannah Cole, Nicholas Scudder, Mackenzie Higgins, and Sydney Scudder.
