Arnett Muldrow recommendations include replacing Rhame Arena

Amidst re-introducing the city of Camden's new "Classically Carolina" slogan and logos, representatives from marketing firm Arnett Muldrow made a few recommendations concerning several "hot" items facing Camden. Among those recommendations are replacing Rhame Arena, going ahead with a proposed "road diet" for a portion of Broad Street, getting a hotel into downtown Camden and moving slowly on the former Maxway department store property.

Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke, and in 2010 South Carolina had the sixth largest number of strokes in the country, in part because of its particularly high incidence of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and smoking. In addition, African Americans tend to have more debilitating strokes, and have them earlier in life, than other groups -- likely because one in three African Americans suffers from high blood pressure, the number one risk factor for stroke. Given statistics like that, treating stroke in South Carolina is essential.

A funeral service for Bobby Bryant Horton, 79 of Kershaw will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday. February 3, 2014, in the sanctuary of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Jefferson. The Revs. Terry Corder and Todd Horton will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, Tuesday morning.

Mary Thomas Skinner

Mrs. Mary Thomas Skinner, 82, of Brooklyn, New York and formerly of Boykin entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 25, 2014. Born in Boykin, South Carolina she was the wife of the late James Skinner and the daughter of the late Willie and Emma Deas Thomas. A Celebration of Life and Homegoing Services were held Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Mount Bethel Baptist Church, Rembert with burial in the church cemetery. Brown's Funeral Home, Camden served the Skinner family.
