"Bobby" Truesdale, 79, of Camden will be held Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM in Bethesda Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. Rev. Dr. William F. Summers will officiate. Pets of the Week for Oct. 8, 2010

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are a 10-week-old female boxer hound mix puppy and a 1-year-old domestic short-haired male cat. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The shelter, located at the south end of Fair Street and managed by the Kershaw County Humane Society, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. 'KICKed' off

The School Improvement Council at Wateree Elementary School "KICKed" off a new school year with a back to school Mother/Son Kickball game. Mrs. Gail Stehle, head coach and principal, pumped up the players. Mr. Keith Wilder and Mr. John Hanson announced plays and gave away prizes. Although the sons defeated the moms, both played hard and had fun!

Finding peace for a dead soldier

We've gone back and forth in our views on the case heard Wednesday by the U.S. Supreme Court involving a Kansas church which has protested at the funerals of dead American soldiers with such distasteful signs as "Thank God For Dead Soldiers." The issue is whether or not First Amendment free speech rights carry over to disrupting private funerals. Church members say that because the deceased soldier's father was interviewed by a local newspaper that he became a public figure and was thus targetable by a protest.
