Airline merger

It remains to be seen whether Kershaw County travelers will benefit or suffer from the merger of USAirways and American Airlines, a move which was approved by the Justice Department earlier this week. Some consumer groups opposed the merger on grounds that it will reduce competition and ultimately lead to higher ticket prices. But at Charlotte's Douglas International Airport, which is used by many local travelers, USAirways already controls about 90 percent of the flights, so it's not going to make a huge competitive difference there.

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are Cleo, a six-month-old Beagle mix and a gray female cat. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. Hunley submarine replica returning to Camden

A 43-foot-long replica of the H.L. Hunley will return to the Camden Archives and Museum from on Dec. 13 and 14. The replica last appeared in Camden in May 2012.

Boy Scout history event to be shown from LDS Center

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) partnered together on October 29 to present an original production about the history and values of scouting. "A Century of Honor," commemorates the 100-year relationship between the Church and the BSA. This was the largest Scouting event ever held.
