Star-studded cast headed to Saturday's Camden Mania II

Five-time World Championship Wrestling Tag Team champion Buff Bagwell will headline a star-studded Saturday evening's (April 26) card at Camden Mania II, an SWA Wrestling extravaganza that supports community programs, at Camden's E. Clarkson Rhame City Arena.

Roger Smoak, the man whose name is synonymous with tennis in Camden, will be honored when the tennis courts at Camden High School are named after him in a 4 p.m. on-court ceremony on Monday, April 28 prior to the Bulldogs' non-region match with visiting Hartsville.

BARK! The Musical comes to Fine Arts Center

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County and the Camden Community Theatre (CCT) bring you the highly anticipated BARK! The Musical, a howlingly funny production directed by Jami Steele, the FAC's new Education/Theatre Director. The production will run May 1 - 4 in the Wood Auditorium. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students, seniors and military. BARK! The Musical is sponsored by Powers Funeral Home. The play is dedicated to the memory of Judith Anne "Judy" Firestone Thiel, a longtime animal lover and staunch supporter of the Walker M. Crowe Animal Shelter.

Kershaw County Master Gardeners plant sale

It'll be here before you know it. It's Spring and the Kershaw County Master Gardeners are having their Spring Plant sale Saturday, May 10 (the day before Mother's Day). A large collection of everything needed for a garden will be available for purchase. The sale will be held, as always, at the Homemakers Building at Church and DeKalb Streets in Camden. The doors open at 8 a.m. to a wonderland of plants to replace what the winter or spring may have taken away.

Boston Strong

No city is more inextricably linked to this country's quest for freedom than Boston. From an early age students learn about the Boston Tea Party, the Boston Massacre and all the other historic events that helped set the colonies on the road to freedom. So it was especially fitting Monday that the city showed that it's indeed "Boston Strong" by completing its famous marathon. Of course, the race came a year after bombers killed three and wounded hundreds during the running of this country's most storied 26.2-mile race.
