American Legion Palmetto Boys State is one of the most prestigious summer programs for rising seniors in the state. Boys State is a national American Legion sponsored program that began in 1935 and is held annually in every state except Hawaii.

James Gregory, ‘The Funniest Man in America,’returns to the FAC

The FAC of Kershaw County is opening its 2013-14 season with one of the South's favorite comedians -- James Gregory. Known as "The Funniest Man in America," Gregory is slated to return to the FAC on Thursday, Aug. 22 for one performance only in the Wood Auditorium. Showtime is 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now with two price options.

• Within a month, Camdenites will no longer have to look at the rotting Maxway building at the corner of Broad and Rutledge streets, as the city plans to tear it down soon. The city purchased the building, which has been vacant for about a decade, earlier this year, and there's some chance a small park will be built on the site. But even vacant, it will look better without the old building, and everybody will be glad to see it go.
