Colonial Cup set for 45th renewal on Nov. 15

John Wesley Jeffords, Sr.

Funeral services for John Wesley Jeffords, Sr., 86, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Camden, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Phillip Gerald will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, 1201 Broad Street, Camden, S.C. 29020.

School News: Westville’s Aly Bolin named to Auburn 2013-14 Dean’s List

Aly Bolin, of Westville, was named to the Dean's List of Auburn University for the 2013-2014 academic year. Aly is now a senior majoring in Political Science with a minor in Community and Civic Engagement. Aly was a participant in Auburn's Research Week 2014. Aly will complete her Honors College senior thesis this fall, under Dr. Stacey Hunt. Aly was recently named an Auburn University College of Liberal Arts Fellow and is a two-time Auburn Leadership in Political Science nominee.

Researchers used data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to analyze obesity rates in each state and create a map. Mississippi and West Virginia had the highest rates of obesity, tied at 35.1 percent, according to the report. Colorado had the lowest rate at 21.3 percent.
