Kershaw County Library to increase material available to residents

This February will see big changes for library users in Kershaw County, when the county library joins South Carolina Libraries Sharing Resources, SC LENDS, a group of libraries that share a common catalog and library materials. By becoming a member of SC LENDS, anyone with a Kershaw County library card will be able to request material from 15 other libraries statewide, which will then be routed to a local library, usually within 48 hours. Brevard Music Scholarship Competition announced

The Camden Music Association, in conjunction with the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County, announces the Brevard Music Scholarship Competition will be held Saturday, Feb. 5. With three different scholarship opportunities, winners will be awarded money toward further study or may spend the summer at the prestigious Brevard Summer Music Camp. The scholarships are funded by the Upton Foundation and the Fran Shealy Scholarship Fund.

CMA hazing trial continues in Columbia

A federal jury is hearing testimony this week as the trial begins of a lawsuit brought against Camden Military Academy (CMA). In the trial's first days, attorneys for a former cadet have brought forward testimony and evidence they say show that, in 2008, other CMA students raped the then 13-year-old boy, according to news reports. The former cadet, listed in the lawsuit only as "JBC," is now 18.
