Camden doesn’t want you texting while driving

The city of Camden is recognizing April as National Distracted Driving Awareness Month by encouraging all Camden residents to be careful and mindful of others while they're on the road. City officials read a proclamation during Camden City Council's meeting Tuesday.

Mary Krimminger Williams

Funeral Services for Mary Krimminger Williams, 90, will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Leonhardt and the Rev. Barbee Parsons will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 218, Lugoff, S.C. 29078.

Mrs. Elizabeth Drakeford Williams, 80, died Friday, March 21, 2014. She was born July 31, 1933 in Kershaw County South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Nora Jones Drakeford. She was married to the late Johnny M. Williams.

Camden Media Co. purchases The Camden Equestrian magazine

In a joint statement, Mike Mischner and LRT Consulting LLC announced today that The Camden Equestrian magazine would be joining the Camden Media Co. family of publications. The Camden Equestrian was founded in 2008 and has been owned and published by LRT Consulting LLC since 2013. LRT Consulting LLC is owned and operated by Camden resident Lydia R. Towell.

Basketball prowess

When I listened to the news yesterday, I heard that a school resource officer (and part-time policeman) was in trouble for a problem concerning a basketball and lack of respect from a student. While I do now know what happened -- just that, according to the news, the gentlemen shoved a 14-year-old male. I also had a problem concerning these two, except my male student was older. I did not receive coverage in the newspaper or the television. Here is what happened.
