Students need the Bible

I was saddened by the choice of the senior(s) of the graduating class in (the) Lexington (school) district, but rejoice with the students who chose to include the "Invocation" in their program. But even more saddened hearing and reading in the Chronicle (that) Camden High chose to omit prayer and the "National Anthem" during their graduation ceremonies.

Washday blues

Dirty clothes -- the constant, consistent chore -- is still one of the most odious banes for women. Jingles for commercial tout the truth that "mama keeps the house clean…," but what the woman must face every day is soiled linen! Most men's use of the same temperature for everything and their employment of the "smell test" – if it doesn't smell too bad, wear it again -- may explain the female's acceptance of the laundry chore. No matter the cause, the modern woman has no idea how different keeping presentable clothing was in earlier days.

Pet talk - June 22, 2012

Evacuating when a hurricane hits the coast is a stressful and scary experience, especially when evacuating with horses. While tornadoes give little warning for evacuation, hurricanes can give enough lead time to actually move people and horses out of the storm's expected path. But even with that time, preparing for equine evacuations can be crucial to the survival of horses.

Noted and passed - March 23, 2015

• Friday, we reported a grand jury finally indicted 22-year-old Stephen Ross Kelly for his alleged kidnapping, sexual assault and murder of Briana Rabon. We say "finally indicted" because Briana was killed more than a year ago. While we cannot be certain -- grand jury proceedings are secret, and for good reason -- we suspect the indictments were handed down now because the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) only recently completed its forensic examination of evidence it and the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office collected. Briana, by all accounts, was a bright young lady who, at 18, had her entire life ...
