The rules for correct grammar usage are many. They, however, are equaled to or exceeded by the exceptions. No one believes me when I tell them I never write without a dictionary and thesaurus by my side; after all, I taught English for many years. Mrs. Katie White Miller, 89, of Camden, entered into eternal rest of Friday, Oct. 11, 2013. Born in Camden, South Carolina, she was the daugther of the late Lewis, Sr. and Eliza Chapman White and the wife of the late Frank Miller, Sr. A Celebration of Life Services will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Kingdom hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Camden. Mrs. Miller will be placed in the hall at 10 a.m. for viewing. Brown's Funeral Home, Camden, is the Miller family.

Open up to possibilities

It's time for us to expand our mindsets about the political situation in Washington. In a recent New York Times article, Russ Douthat said that politics is hard business and failure is normal enough, but that sensible people, "Republicans included," should have seen that shut down fever would blow up in the Party's face. Why? Because they had no method in place to deal with what could arguably be seen as basically a worthy objective.
