KC American Dixie Boys rally to stay alive

Trailing Rock Hill, 8-2, in the fourth inning in Lancaster Monday afternoon, the Kershaw County American Dixie Boys All-Stars closed the game with a 9-2 run to stave off elimination in the district tournament.

New principals announced for CES, Pine Tree

Carol Przybyla and Melissa Royalty are the new principals for Camden and Pine Tree Hill elementary schools, respectively. The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees approved Przybyla as principal of Camden Elementary School and Royalty as principal of Pine Tree Hill Elementary School at its June 27 meeting.

There's a way government works, and a way the public thinks government works, and the two often don't resemble each other. For instance, many Americans naturally assume the State Department picks its best and brightest people as diplomats, performing the important function of acting as liaison between the United States and the countries to which they have been posted. That would make sense and would help ensure healthy relations with other countries around the world.

Emily S. Arthur of Camden, SC passed away June 30, 2013. She was born in 1924, in Hendersonville, NC to Belvin Cornelius Shipman, Sr. and Alice Jennings Shipman. After growing up in Augusta, GA she married the love of her life, Willis Arthur, 64 years ago and followed as his career took him to North Augusta, SC and eventually Camden, SC. She was a devoted wife and mother of her two children who always had a smile for everyone.

County man pleads guilty to breeding, abusing dogs for fights

A Kershaw County man pled guilty June 27 to 12 counts of ill treatment of animals and eight counts of breeding dogs for illegal purposes, all felony charges. Burton Lushawn Mincey, arrested by the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) Jan. 8, immediately received a sentence of five years, suspended upon one year of active prison time and two years supervised release from Judge Robert Hood at the Kershaw County Courthouse.
